Personal Profile... Events Behind.. Rotarian, A.H.M. Mainuddin Ahmed widely known as Jahangir. He is an author of Social development, Law & Disaster Management. He was born on 30.11.1952 at the Charfassion Thana of Bhola Island of Bangladesh. The people of the off shore islands of Bangladesh, are some of the poorest GDP less than us$200 in the world. Bangladesh have population about 115 million, population density 880 per km and over 50% less than 15 yrs of age. Bhola is a great disaster prone area. Main occupation of people at Bhola are agriculture, fishing, day labour etc. The devastating tidal bore of 1970, claimed the lives 90,000 people alone. At Charfassion, now more than 750,000 population. In
70,s tidal bore, Jahangir being a victim was forced to shelter a tree
with 3 snakes, while he was 16. Jahangir born in a firm house, his father
Mr. Alhaj AKM Abdul Matin, aged 80 years a great philanthropist, established
many charitable Institutions (died on 10.6.2000), wished his son to
become a doctor and to help the community as they are so poor that they
cannot afford medical treatment or law. However, Jahangir became a professional
social worker, did his master in Social Welfare in 1976 and Graduation
in Law in 1982 and later did Diploma in Disaster Management from OCDS,
Oxford University, UK.In 1974,Jahangir also worked for making a film
on disaster of BANGLADESH with Mr.Jonathan Dimbelby (famous BBC COMMENTER
/PRODUCER & WRITER OF "PRINCE OF WALES"). Up to end of December,96,
Jahangir served as international Humanitarian Aid worker, Human Rights
and Social Activist. He under took many different Humanitarian, Social
Development & Relief efforts to aid poor people and Disaster victims,
both home & abroad.

He
is married with Dilruba Haider, an Educationist, English News Caster,
of Bangladesh Televesion (BTV), founder principal of Fatema Matin Women
Degree College; also anchorperson, worked for DFID(BHC) as Program
Manager, having Master in English. Now joined as "Assistant Resident
Representative" of UNDP - Bangladesh since 4th January' 04(LEFT
UNDP IN 31ST MAY 2006,NOW AS DISASTER MANAGEMENT EXPERT). They
have 3 children. (Rehnuma, Rukshar, and Magnus). Jahangir is also an
advisor of European NetWorks for street children worldwide. In
1997 he joined as an advocate of supreme Court of Bangladesh, as per
wish of his late parents. Does provide free legal Aids to needy. He
is also a member of Supreme-Court BAR, Bangladesh Taxes Bar, Dhaka
Bar Association. He also obtained A RESOLUTION from mayor of KANSAS
city, USA for his greatest humanitarian works for children also. He
is associated with many Humanitarian Institutions, like University of
Goodnes, NC, USA ,RAPID-UK, Cranfield Disaster preparedness center of
Royal Military College of Science, U.K, Human rights -First the Child
, OZ -Child ,Peace Crops. IAVE,BASWS,UK INCEDE (Instititute Of Industrial
Science) of Tokoyo University, INSTITUTE OF DISASTER MITIGATION and
RESPONCE, CCETSW,UK also Amnesty International. He is also a proud member
of The GREEN Leaf Centre for Servant- Leadership, USA; associated with
Hartman Center for Civic Education and Leadership, Depauw University
of USA, Indiana University, as well Dartmouth College & SERVAS (International
Family/Home exchange/friendship association). He & his wife
have widely traveled to many countries of the world. He is an active
members of Rotary International, RI- district 3280 (Jahangir Nagar,
Dhaka) Bangladesh. He is also a Social Activist and Social Reformer.
He does not believe in party politics. Mr.Jahangir is also the
Part Time Teacher of Environmental law of the University of JAHANGIRNAGAR
, International Observer of Human Rights and International Humanitarian
law as well LEGAL ADVISOR of ARISE/ UNDP ( legal expert of Child Rights
law) Mr.Ahmed also served as International Human Rights Consultant with UNDP/UNV in the year of 2007 at Papua New Guinea, Reviewed the PNG & ARB constitutions
